This is the beer that began it all. India Pale Ale earned its name when British troops stationed in India developed a taste for the pale ale that was shipped to them from England. In order to preserve the beer for the long ocean journey, hops were added to the casks, resulting in a delightfully bitter flavor. So as MNB contemplated a name for our IPA, we thought back to the pirates who undoubtedly attempted to steal the India-bound brew (”swashbucklers”). We also thought about clowns. Which make us “chuckle.” Put them together, and the Swashchuckler IPA was born.

The beer has grown over the 4 or 5 iterations and boasts a rich, hoppy flavor with a reddish brown color. It has a relatively sweet malt with a nice floral finish, and just enough hop bite to let you know it’s not messing around. Like a pirate.
