The best part of brewing

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

We did it. We brewed a beer. We started out a bit light on the ol’ turnout, but things picked up around 9pm or so. One of my favorite parts of Monday Night Brewery is the aftermath… after I’ve gotten my jeans soaked from Joel’s errant hose blasts… after we’ve done a shoddy job cleaning [...]

A very Grolschy Christmas

Friday, December 7th, 2007

West sent along this classy gem. A Christmas tree made entirely of Grolsch beer bottles. Click on the pic for a close-up – and notice how they even positioned each swivel top to simulate ornaments and/or lights.

Besides the ability to avoid humping your carboys, theoretically this should give us better attenuation (conversion of the sugars from the grains into CO2 and alcohol), [...]

It was cold and we brewed a stout

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Who knew that it could get so cold in Georgia? Last night we braved the elements and brewed our Lumberjack Stout outdoors. We tweaked the recipe a bit from last time, and we should get some better attenuation, since we used a yeast starter and pure oxygen (see discussion here). More on the oxygen tomorrow.

Interview with a brewer: Black Raven Brewery in Seattle, WA

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

These interviews with professional brewers have been incredibly insightful for us. I realize the posts are long, but there’s a lot of interesting stuff in there. This third installment in the Interview with a Brewer series is compliments of Beaux Bowman, one of the two founders of the Black Raven Brewery, which will be opening [...]
