It was cold and we brewed a stout

Who knew that it could get so cold in Georgia? Last night we braved the elements and brewed our Lumberjack Stout outdoors. We tweaked the recipe a bit from last time, and we should get some better attenuation, since we used a yeast starter and pure oxygen (see discussion here). More on the oxygen tomorrow.

Joel unfortunately couldn’t make it. I didn’t want him to feel left out of the pictures though, so I took the liberty of Photoshopping him in next to Jeff and I. He looks so warm. Smug bastard.

Despite a slow start, we actually had a bunch of people drop by. They also helped to consume our Roundhouse Pale Ale and Southern Monk Peach Belgian, both of which were on tap. We’re not quite happy with the Belgian yet, but we’re getting pretty close with the pale ale. Oh – and once I accidentally sprayed everyone with 40 degree water which we were using to cool the wort, everyone left. So that was cool.

Thanks to everyone who showed up. Come again next week!

Also, note that Jonathan and I were wearing matching hats. Which is…uh…awesome?

  2. Jonathan Says:

Yeah, I think awesome would be the right word there.

Cold in Georgia, gimme a break. It was in the teens and blizzarding out Saturday (coincidentally it’s doing the same thing now and everyday until spring). We brewed barefoot uphill both ways and we liked it!

Actually it was great, we were able to cool 10 gallons of Cream ale in like 10 min with the snow.

    Cheers

Travis, don’t make me come up there. I’ll bring layers if I have to.

Come up here, please, you know the roads in in the south stop at the Mason-Dixon line.

That doesn’t mean I won’t forge my own path through the icy woods and brambles. You’re about to enter into a world of hurt.

Hmm, that’s one interesting way to announce last call — spray 40 degree water on everyone…

I wish we had 40 degree water here in Southern California. It would really help to cool wort. Instead, we’re stuck with this sun and warmth year-round. How boring.
