Closer to a name for our barleywine…

Friday, July 13th, 2007

But we’re not there yet. We’ve had some great reactions thus far (thank you!), but the one resounding name, Triple Dog Barleywine, has been ruled out for a very good reason. Because of Flying Dog Brewery, who “owns the dog space,” as we might say in marketing.
However, I would still like to give props to [...]

I officially hate Carlsberg

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

And that’s after trying only one of their beers (Tetley’s). I recently read an interview in The McKinsey Quarterly with Carlsberg’s senior VP, Alex Myers. The article outlines the steps Carlsberg (which encompasses about 100 different beer brands) is taking to combat proliferating channels, media and customer segments. A few tasty morsels from the interview:

Good marketing does not equal bad beer

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Al over at Hop Talk has just written an excellent post on the power of marketing in beer. The brunt of the argument is this, from writer Bill Virgin:

Tonight we will be brewing up a Christmas Barleywine, which should be ready for consumption by November. Barleywines benefit substantially from aging, anywhere from 3-4 months to several years. By the [...]

Joel acts a fool at the homebrew store

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

I swear. We can’t take Joel anywhere. Saturday Joel and I made the trek up to the local homebrew store (not so local, by the way). We promptly went crazy like 2 kids in a candy shop. I’ll admit, it’s handy to have Joel there to put together the grain bill, as he knows more [...]

Enough already…

Friday, July 6th, 2007

I’m sick and tired of pouring beer down the drain. I poured out the last of my most recent Swashchuckler IPAs last night. Note: if you ever do this, make sure not to leave the caps in the sink as they can be washed down the drain and into the garbage disposal.
Brewing tainted beer hurts [...]
