Lumberjack Stout (the label, not the beer)

Yes, I realize that I’m posting during March Madness. Yes, I realize that Tennessee just spanked UVA (suck on that, Joel). But that doesn’t mean that we’re not hard at work.

Thanks to Eli’s suggestion, I’ve been working on another version of the Lumberjack [Oatmeal] Stout label. One that doesn’t involve a falling tree, but instead, axes. I still tried to incorporate the tree, but honestly, I have no idea what the response to this thing will be like. So. What’s the response to this thing like? Are we there yet? C’mon, I can take it.

I like the axe as a motif, but the pinetree handles make the image uncertain. To boot, crossing them a) resembles the crossbones of Swashchuckler, and b) is too aggressive, as if a lumberjack must assert his badasssness. As one who has been described as lumberjackish, I think the presence of an axe, casually laid over a shoulder or up against something else, is its own intimidation.

I agree, I’m thinking an axe leaning on a stump, coffee cup sitting on the freshly gleaned top.

While we’re at it, I don’t think Lumberjack is the strongest name we have. I like the idea of a lumberjack, but perhaps we’re being too upfront about it?
